With an eerie background draped in a red glow, Biden delivered a stunning and provocative speech (full text available here). In it, Biden outlined the case for labeling Trump and his supporters as extremists. Politicians usually spew so much rhetoric and platitudes that most of their speeches are boring and predictable. But this one was different. In this speech, Biden clearly draws a line in the sand against Trump and MAGA Republicans.
The first ten minutes or so were filled with threats and language typically reversed for declarations of war. The most striking word used was “extremist”. It sent chills down my spine to hear the President label millions of Americans as anti-democratic extremists. Rhetoric aside, previous regimes used these exact words to legally justify invading foreign countries, authorizing drone strikes, and detaining prisoners without trial. In of a continuation of my series on mass manipulation and Trump, I’ll dissect this speech and examine how it fits into the big picture.
Fear of the Mid Term
Probably my biggest take away from the speech is the overwhelming fear of the midterm elections. Democrats expect big wins for Republicans in November. But that isn’t their fear. They don’t fear “every Republican, not even the majority of Republicans.” And why would they? Standard issue Republicans use different rhetoric, but otherwise govern like Democrats. Instead, they clearly fear “MAGA Republicans.”
Biden claims that MAGA Republicans are undermining democracy in “state after state” by giving “power to decide elections in America to partisans and cronies.” How are they doing this? He doesn’t say. The claim, of course, is absurd. All elections in the US have been decided by partisans and cronies. Biden isn’t really worried about cronies. He is worried that a different group of cronies will get into power in several swing states. Naturally, these swing states hold the keys to counting votes and ultimately deciding the presidential election.
So, in an attempt to salvage one more election, Biden lays out a case for why MAGA is evil and extreme. In a weak attempt to lure mainstream Republicans, he questions the patriotism of Trump supporters, particularly ones that are “pro-insurrectionist.” Further, he says that Democracy itself is incompatible with MAGA supporters because they believe Trump really won in 2020. This is a particularly odd take from Democrats who claim the 2016 election was stolen by Russians and the 2000 election was stolen by Jeb Bush1.
Are you Threatening Me?
With question, Biden makes it apparent that the gloves are coming off. He says, “America is at an inflection point — one of those moments that determine the shape of everything that’s to come after.” Then he repeats several times that he “will not stand by and watch.” What exactly does this mean? It is not clear from the speech, but the obvious answer is that he wants to take down Trump. Further, Biden wants to defeat all MAGA politicians. They are “extremists” and enemies of democracy, and they must be taken down.
Trump ushered in a new wave of politicians. These GOP candidates have done surprisingly well in the primaries2. When Trump won in 2016, he stood alone against both the Clinton and the Bush political machines. Now, a wave of hard-core, pro-Trump candidates are in positions to win in November. And this scares the crap out of both parties.
Crossroads
If MAGA candidates do well in November, Trump will not stand alone in 2024. Instead, he’ll have his people in power. They will be loyal to him and not to the establishment. This is a big deal, especially on the state level, where votes are actually counted. Effectively, the mid-term elections are pivotal for Trump’s chances to win in 2024. At least, that is the case the Biden is trying to make.
Personally, I don’t buy it. I believe Biden is grasping at straws and making up villains to fight against. Biden’s whole case rides on the assumption that who counts the votes matters. But at the same time, he claims American elections are “free and fair”. Naturally, it can’t be both, because in fair elections it doesn’t matter who counts the votes. Oddly, Trump makes the same assumption / argument.
Maybe both of them have a point. I don’t know. However, I know for sure that only losers complain about the refs. Biden’s speech is the speech of a [future] loser. He knows that Trump will destroy him in the 2024 election, fair or otherwise. The Biden presidency has been a complete and total failure, and now he is facing two years as a lame duck president with a Republican majority3.
Mid Term Elections
As for the midterm elections, it is hard to see anything other than a massive Republican victory4. The economy is in recession, and there are clear signs that we’re entering a stagflation super-cycle. Biden’s foreign policy is an absolute disaster: Ukraine is on the verge of collapse, the military left $7 billion worth of equipment for the Taliban5, and protests rage in Iraq6. After four years of division under Trump, the country yearned for a leader to unite the masses.
Instead, Biden doubled down on blaming Trump and MAGA Republicans for all of the nation’s problems. And this speech is a perfect example. With no solutions to offer, Biden accused millions of Trump supporters of being the enemy of Democracy, freedom, and the American way. Biden and the Democratic Party are bankrupt of ideas. They know who their enemies are, but have lost sight of average Americans. From education to the economy, voters have lost hope in Leftist idealism and instead want practical solutions7.
Conclusion
While the world burns around us, Biden escalates internal conflict. In plan sight, he threatened MAGA Republicans. Is this speech just poorly worded rhetoric or did Biden layout a plan for attacking Trump and his followers? Given how crazy the establishment reacts towards Trump, I suspect it’s the latter of the two. As I’ve argued before, I believe the Deep State will not let Trump take office again, even if he runs and wins. Between now and 2024, they will try every trick imaginable to stop his return to power.
But this game is dangerous. If played correctly, they can avoid another Trump term. However, if played incorrectly, they endanger the very fabric of our nation. I think at this point another 4 years of Trump would be better than the possible consequences of a blocked or stolen election in 2024. As long as Biden is the candidate, most people will never believe the fairness of a second Trump loss. The only way to avoid this outcome is a credible replacement for Biden, which doesn’t seem likely (every plausible replacement stands no chance).
In the meantime, the midterm elections loom. It will be interesting to see if the feds use the “extremist” label to crack down on Trump and/or pro-Trump candidates. You can be absolutely sure that social media will help the establishment with this effort, just like they did in the 2020 election8. I’ve already noticed a general purge of influential accounts on Twitter, and fully expect more shenanigans from the regime prior to the elections.
